Willie Brown, Jr. (November 24, 1944 – April 21, 2006), was sentenced to death on November 15, 1983 by the Martin County, North Carolina Superior Court for the March 6, 1983 murder of Vallerie Ann Roberson Dixon. Valerie Dixon, 29, was reported missing on March 6, 1983 from the Zip Mart (now Chicken Kitchen) in Williamston, North Carolina where she worked the late-night to early-morning shift. She was found shot six times in the back of the head. Police later stopped Brown driving her car. In his possession were a pistol and a bag of money from the Zip Mart.
